THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Organization Spotlight: H.E.R.O.S.

Ready to take the lead around Alcorn’s campus? Look no further than ASU H.E.R.O.S.

The ASU H.E.R.O.S. (Alcorn State University Health Educators Reaching Other Students) is a student-run health-based organization. It hosts several health events around campus annually such as blood drives and Wellness Wednesday.

Wellness Wednesday is hosted every Wednesday depending on the month. For example, for the month of October, ASU H.E.R.O.S. hosted an event on Breast Cancer Awareness. Participants were given knowledge about Breast Cancer and its warning signs.

Heaven Thomas, Social Media Manager for H.E.R.O.S., stated that her purpose for joining this organization is to spread the knowledge of sexual health on a college campus.

“Any chance that I can get to tell my friends about sex health, I will take it and spread the knowledge,” states Thomas.

Natchez, Mississippi native and Mr. H.E.R.O.S., Demarcus Jackson, chose H.E.R.O.S. because of a personal experience. He was diagnosed with diabetes at a young age and wants to change the narrative of individuals who deal with the same issue.

“We as an organization are getting out and getting people involved so that they can spread it to others,” Jackson says.

ASU H.E.R.O.S. is open to all classifications, so if you are interested in spreading good health, here is something you may want to join. You can contact the organization on Instagram at asu_heros or on Twitter at ASUHEROS1.
