Pathway to Career Lecture Series Presentation

The Myrlie Evers-Wiliams Honors Program and the Department of Social Sciences presented a Pathway to Career Lecture Series Presentation on November 13, 2025 from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm in the Dumas Hall Auditorium at Alcorn State University. The speaker was Ramel L. Cotton from David Consulting Group, LLC., in Jackson, Mississippi. Cotton has over 20 years of legal experience in Mississippi and throughout the country.

The program’s theme was “Preparing for a Career in Political Science, Law and Other Related Opportunities.” This workshop was beneficial because it explored the opportunity of assisting Alcorn’s Law and other related Pre-Professional Programs students in building their pathway to a career.

The presentation included real life experiences as a student at Alcorn and engaged the students regarding their interests and needs in an effort to tailor the programming based around the students, including but not limited to:

1) Study habits (good and bad);

2) Creating winning systems that lead to success;

3) Short falls: real life examples of what doesn’t lead to success;

4) Balancing student life with a healthy appreciation of the college experience;

5) Preparing for the next phase (professional school, work, etc.);

6) The real world.

The Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Program and Department of Social Sciences at Alcorn State University sponsored the program.
