On March 31st at 11:00 am there was a ribbon cutting ceremony held at Alcorn State University’s (ASU) newest building, the Dr. Rudolph Waters Sr. Classroom Building.
The program began with a greeting from Alcorn’s 2022-2023 Student Government Association (SGA) President, Christopher Epps, the 2022-2023 Mister Alcorn, Kendrick Walker, and the Interim Dean of the School of Business, Dr. Babu George.
After the greeting, the program followed up with reflections of Dr. Rudolph Waters Sr. (the building’s namesake), celebrating his life and the legacy of all of his accomplishments. On behalf of the Waters’ family, Veronica Waters, Dr. Waters’ daughter, spoke words of appreciation to the audience about her father and what Alcorn meant to him and his family throughout his time there.
“It is a pleasure to be home today. This campus, the sights, the smells, and the sounds evoke a sense of familiarity and comfort,” stated Waters.
The late Dr. Waters served the Alcorn community for 48 years serving in numerous capacities such as Dean of Instruction, Coordinator of the Title III Programs, Executive Vice President and Interim President of ASU from 1994-1995. He was the Chairman of the Always Alcorn Annual Fund Campaign and he erected the Dr. Rudolph E. Waters Sr. Endowment to support students with financial needs at Alcorn.
The School of Business’ goal is to produce ethically responsible and technically proficient future leaders who will make judgments and drive change that maximizes both ecological sustainability and economic competitiveness. The School of Business offers Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Business Administration that prepare graduates for entry into the fast-paced, technologically advanced workplace at the proper level of skill, responsibility, and pay or for further study in graduate or professional school. With elective clusters in Marketing, Human Resources, and Finance, the School also grants a Master’s degree in Business Administration. The School of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
Dr. Felicia M. Nave, President of Alcorn State University, brought the event to a close by giving her closing remarks and acknowledgments then cutting the ribbon in front of the building to officially open it to the public. “The School of Business is a signature program here at Alcorn and is accredited by the Accreditation Council that have partnered with many companies which shows its commitment to making sure that not only do our students have access to quality education but an advantageous one at that. As the business world changes, we here at Alcorn want to make sure that our students are prepared to go out into the world and excel,” stated Dr. Nave.
