THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Royal Court hosts Ladies Night: Self Care Talk

On February 6th, Alcorn State University’s (ASU) Class Queens hosted a Ladies Night: Self Care Talk event. This occurrence was held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the second floor of the James L. Bolden Campus Union. Its purpose was to discuss self-care and how women can help each other live healthier while prioritizing their well-being.

The event began with Amariah McCray (Miss Junior), Kennedy Jenae (Miss Sophomore), and Gabrielle Robinson (Miss Freshman) introducing themselves. The ladies started with an icebreaker, which was for everyone to stand in a circle and play ‘musical fan’. Whoever was holding the fan when the music stopped, that person had to say a positive affirmation that they tell themselves every day. The second icebreaker was for everyone to have a minute of silence to themselves. Once that minute was over, everyone had to discuss how they were feeling.

Afterwards, all of the attendees were asked to sit at three main tables. Each table had a fun activity to do for ten minutes and rotate. The first table was for making personal sugar scrubs using sugar, olive oil and essential peppermint oil. The second table was for making facial masks with Aztec Secret Clay and water. The last activity was for everyone to write down ten goals that they plan to accomplish this year.

Once the event concluded, the Queens thanked everyone for coming. Each participant was asked to take a group photo and to take a goodie bag that had hair and self-care products. Also, everyone had an opportunity to express how they felt about the event. Ariel Knott, the 98th Miss Alcorn State University, stated, “I think this event is much needed for the ladies on this campus. It’s not many events like this where we can discuss our problems or anything we might be going through. I’m so proud of my Court for hosting this wonderful event because of its necessity.”
