The Senior Class Cabinet (SCC) at Alcorn State University is currently hosting a campus wide clothing and food drive. With the holidays swiftly approaching, the Senior Class believes that it is always a blessing to give to those that are less fortunate. The drive began on October 17 and is set to end November 1, 2016.

Cabinet members assembled together at 8:00 pm and began to visit the dormitories on campus, going door-to-door asking students for donations. Two dorms were visited a night, beginning with the Medgar Wiley Evers Heritage Village, then proceeding to Hiram Revels and Albert Lott Halls where countless items were collected. Students donated things such as clothing, shoes, food, snacks, teddy bears, water, tissue paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, soap, perfume, body wash and lotion.

Laquita Williams, Senior, said, “Students were very generous in supporting the cause. I feel happy knowing that I was able to contribute as well.” The drive will continue with Robinson and Burrus Halls this week and conclude with Female Honors Residence Hall next week.

Michael Hurns, Senior Class President, said, “The food and clothing drive is going very well. The students on the Alcorn campus have been giving generously and gracefully to the cause. On behalf of the SCC, we would like to thank everyone for their contributions.”

Proceeds and collections will be donated to homeless shelters in the surrounding areas. For more information about the Senior Class’ clothing and food drive, please contact Michael Hurns at (601) 493-3789 or mhurns@students.alcorn.edu.
