SGA and Sophomore Class Cabinet Hold Toy Drive

Tis the season to be giving.

To celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday the Student Government Association (SGA) and Sophomore Class Cabinet organized a toy drive Tuesday, November 13th in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall lobby.

This is the organization’s first year to conduct the toy drive but they have high hopes for this year’s outcome as well as for next year and years to come.

“It is the holidays so it’s just the season to give and the smallest things can make anybody happy. Just giving them something like clothes, food or toys would hopefully put a smile on their faces,” said Wendy Thurmond, Treasurer of Alcorn’s Sophomore Cabinet.

Along with gathering toy donations, monetary donations will also be accepted.

“Hopefully the outcome will be great because we’re taking toys, cash, and cash app as well. So everyone will be able to give money or give donations,” said Thurmond.

All donations will go to Haven House, a shelter in Vicksburg, Mississippi for women and children.

As we begin to think about the gifts under the tree it is extremely important for us to think of those who may not have gifts under the tree.

In addition to the toy drive hosted on Tuesday, the organizations also accepted donations on Wednesday, November 7th and will be taking items again in the following weeks.

“We will be doing another toy drive when we come back from our Thanksgiving break,” Thurmond said.

Donations will be collected by members of the SGA and Sophomore Class Cabinet during the week of November 26th in the lobby of the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall.
