On August 24th, the Student Government Association (SGA) hosted an organizational fair from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the James L. Bolden Student Union Ballroom.
The organizational fair is a rich tradition at Alcorn that is usually held during the first week of students returning to classes. “The reasoning for putting on the organizational fair was to allow Freshmen, transfers, and upperclassman students to become familiar with clubs and organizations on campus in hopes of learning about them and possibly joining,” said SGA 1st Vice President Madison Gray.
This year’s organizational fair included over 20 organizations and clubs looking to add new members. Some of the organizations included, Girl’s Coalition, Impact Community Service Organization, The Collegiate 100 Women ASU, The Trend Modeling Squad, The GQ Modeling Squad, Alpha Chi Sigma, The Pre-Law Society, Friends of the Library, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Beta Beta, ASU Gospel Choir, the Honor Student Organization (HSO), and many others.
“When I walked into the fair there were so many organizations to choose from and I didn’t know where to start. Every organization’s table that I walked up to made me feel welcomed and they explained to me very thoroughly what their organization does,” said Junior transfer student Dejah Keys.
Adhering to the rules and regulations administered by the University for events during the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone was required to wear a mask, and each booth was 6 feet apart so that everyone could practice safe social distancing.
“From a President’s perspective it was nice to see all of the organizations getting back on their feet. Last year I know some organizations had trouble getting members because of COVID-19 and people not wanting to participate. However, this time around it was a nice turn out with a lot of eager people signing up and wanting to be active on campus,” said Lawford Domineck, President of HSO and the Mortar Board Honor Society.
