Sterling Shippy, a 6’1″, 300 pound Defensive Lineman from Miami, Florida and former Alcorn State University Brave, has inked an undisclosed contract with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL).
Shippy, after not getting drafted on April 25th when the NFL held its 2019 draft, was invited to attend the Colts mini rookie camp which was held on Friday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 5th. The camp was designed for the coaching staff to get a better look at the players that they drafted and for those like Shippy to impress the coaches enough to earn a contract upon which he did following his tryout.
As a major contributor to Alcorn’s recent success, he started 12 of 13 games in 2018, recording 38 tackles (19 of which were solo) and 8 sacks. Now signed, Shippy will compete for one of the remaining roster spots in training camp.
