HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH ALCORN?

I have been with Alcorn since February 12, 2001.

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?

As the Assistant Director of Human Resources, my role encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the University’s HR functions and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. I assist in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures that promote a positive work environment. My duties include overseeing employee benefits programs, managing compensation structures, and ensuring that all HR practices align with state and federal regulations.

Additionally, I play a key role in training and development initiatives, helping staff to grow professionally. Monitoring HR metrics and providing reports to Senior management is another important aspect of my job, allowing for informed decision-making. Overall, my position is vital in promoting organizational effectiveness and supporting the University’s mission through strategic HR management.

WHEN YOU’RE AT WORK, HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE YOURSELF?

I stay motivated by focusing on my objectives and understanding how my contributions impact the University’s overall success. Celebrating both personal and team achievements enhances my morale and strengthens my commitment to teamwork. I believe in the power of a positive attitude, recognizing that even a simple smile—whether in person or over the phone—can make a difference. By consistently maintaining a strong work ethic, I inspire myself to lead by example.

IN TERMS OF SUCCESSES, WHICH ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

My proudest accomplishment is being a mother to two sons. While I deeply cherish this role, they continuously inspire me to aim higher and always give my best. Simply put, they are my greatest motivation.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE THAT YOU CAN GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO JUST STARTED THEIR CAREER AT ALCORN?

My advice is to stay focused. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Take the time to learn everything you can about your current role, while always keeping an eye on your next opportunity. Position yourself for continuous growth and success. And always keep in mind that your contributions are vital to the overall success of the University.
