Educated, fashionable, hard-working, giving and God fearing are all the qualities that Delesha Banks possesses. She is the new Ms. Mass Communications 2023-2024 at Alcorn State University.
Born to Kemesha Banks and Deliviana Nettles, on January 9, 2001, Banks was naturally an overachiever. Her home is Camden, Mississippi which is rich in family morals and tradition. Growing up the oldest of six children, the role as a leader would serve her family well but now it’s displayed within her deep knitted community. She graduated from Velma Jackson High School in Camden in 2019 and later received her Associates of Applied Science and Career and Technical Certificates from Hinds Community College in Utica, Mississippi in 2021.
Her thirst for education didn’t stop there as she continued on to Alcorn State University (ASU) in Lorman, Mississippi to improve upon her knowledge in News Production, Public Relations and Freelance Writing. While attending ASU she joined organizations such as the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), ASU TV-13 (Alcorn’s television station), and The Campus Chronicle (Alcorn’s online newspaper).
She credits her relentless work ethic to her late grandmother, Kathleen Blackmon. Her grandmother was the head of a family full of strong black women who demonstrated qualities that exemplified what it means to be a woman. “As the new Ms. Mass Communications, I view it as an honor and a privilege. I will work exceptionally hard and do everything within my power to bring even more prestige and honor to this title,” stated Banks.
With her strong belief in God, Banks believes that there is no obstacle that she can’t achieve. She stated, “The love I have for life, my strong faith in God and the gifts He has instilled in me has kept me grounded and determined. Everyone should keep God first and they can accomplish anything that their heart desires.”
Banks plans on becoming a Multimedia Journalist once she graduates from Alcorn.
