On Thursday, March 19th at 1:00 pm, Dr. Antwon D. Woods, Dean of the School of Business at Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted a ‘Conversations with the Dean’ event located in the Dr. Rudolph Waters Classroom Building, with panelists Bethany Cobbs (Recruiter for the Disney Program) and Kenneth Person (General Manager of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort). This conversation highlighted the goal and the opportunities the Disney program offered.
Dr. Woods and the Business students asked questions to the panelists pertaining to how the program was advantageous to students, what qualifications they’d need to be selected to the program, advice for upcoming Seniors, leadership techniques, etc.
As the discussion concluded, both panelists left students with final advice. Cobbs stated, “You are in the driver’s seat of your career and of your life. You are the one who was hitting the brake, hitting the gas, and making the turns. There are people on the stage here such as Dr. Woods, Mr. Harper, myself, and even Mr. Penny—who will help you out, and we’ll give you any guidance advice you need, but we’re just your GPS. So, you are the one who is navigating and actually taking the actions to go where you want to go, and we will help you get there, but you don’t go anywhere if you don’t turn the car on.”
Person added, “My advice is, Bethany and I represent Disney, and we would love for all of you to be a part of the company. But I’m here to make sure, no matter what company you go work for, you’re successful and you’re going to give it 110%. Take advantage of everyone around you, your surroundings, and utilize your resources, because it’s only going to help you flourish in your life and in your career. That’s the most important thing. So take those life lessons and just be successful as an individual, paying homage to the people that paved the way for you.”
