THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Student Author Impacting His Community

D’Marius Jones, a Jackson, Mississippi native and current Alcorn State University (ASU) Mass Communications student looks to inspire his community through his words and actions.

The self-published author has been featured on both national and local platforms including NBC, WJTV, and Theasuchronicle.com (ASU’s online newspaper). Recently he was presented with a chance to further his message on live television. On September 25th, Jones sat down for a live interview with Angela Evans, a Reporter and Hostess for Jackson, Mississippi’s WLBT Channel 3 news show, “Studio3”.

The two discussed topics such as, what inspired his book to be created, the reaction of the community, and how he plans to continue to spread his message to at-risk youth. Jones stated, “It’s a humbling experience every time I see someone reading my book and grasping the message that I’m attempting to convey. It always takes me back to my roots. It lets me know to always stay leveled and to never forget where I come from because it could have been so much worse.”

Jones was adamant on giving full credit to God for his survival of certain ordeals in his life and recognizes that it’s nothing but a miracle that he is still here today. He strives to continue writing books that encourages and uplifts his country and community.

In the meantime, he plans to continue traveling to speak at churches, schools and prisons. “This is a passion of mine that never gets old,” stated Jones.
