Students find new opportunities at annual Fall Career Expo

Alcorn State University’s (ASU) annual Fall Career Fair was held in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Thursday, September 28th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Students were able to explore different career opportunities from employers as well as network. The gym floors were filled with company CEOs and scouts, military recruiters, and students who had previously done internships with the companies to present options that could fulfill student’s professional needs. Some companies that were present at the Expo were the United States Department of Agriculture: Farm Service Agency, Peco Foods, ADM: Human, Pet and Animal Nutrition Company, Penn Entertainment, Waffle House, Sanderson Farms, Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, Nissan and Entergy. Internships, job offers, and shadowing positions were available.

Rachel Gord, a recruiter for the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, stated, “Don’t be discouraged. Explore the booths, even if it doesn’t fit your major at first sight. You never know what you may like or what opportunities may present itself.”

Students were encouraged to dress in business professional attire and have an updated resume or LinkedIn account, as well as visit all booths, even if their major doesn’t relate to it. Free items were passed out, such as coupons, portable chargers, lights, bags and many more novelties.

Junior Education major Steven Alexander stated, “I admire how beneficial the Fair is to students of all backgrounds. It opens a wide range of opportunities for all classifications, majors and areas of study. That way, more students can come and get experience from these companies.”
