The 61st Annual Grammys Red Carpet Extravaganza

The 61st Annual Grammys was hosted by R&B sensation Alicia Keys in Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Sunday, February 10 at 7:00 pm central time. A-list celebrities pulled out all of the stops for the Red Carpet on musics biggest night. This year, thanks to a couple of major snubs, neither Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, nor Ariana Grande were nominated in any of the major categories and therefore each was not in attendance. The Red Carpet wasnt quite as exciting as it could have been to say the least.

Cardi B was arguably the best dressed of the night dawning vintage Mugler and Gismondi1754 jewelry, while others failed miserably. The look, topped off with a bouffant covered in pearls. It was part of Muglers 1995 couture collection, which included plenty of fetish-inspired latex, fur, and feathers.

People often look toward the Kardashians/Jenners for fashion inspiration, but this year Kylie Jenners ensemble sparked mixed social media reactions. She wore a pastel pink suit designed by Balmain. It wasn’t completely atrocious yet wasn’t her best moment. Another interesting pink moment was delivered by Katy Perry. Perry chose an avante garde option that resembled cotton candy. Unlike Jenner, her look was a fail without question. Coincidentally, it also happened to be designed by Balmain.

Some took the Red Carpet as a chance to make a political statement. Ricky Rebel attended the event wearing a blue jacket sporting the messages “Keep America Great” and “Trump 2020.” Similarly, singer Joy Villa turned up in a dress scrawled with the message “Build the Wall”. Villa accessorized with a spiked metal head piece and rings of barbed wire. These choices sparked major media backlash with anti-Trump activists.

There were plenty of understated looks to round out the more outrageous Red Carpet looks. Host Alicia Keys arrived in a plunging, figure-hugging red dress by Armani Privé, which she paired with elegant Bulgari jewelry. Another somewhat understated look was served by Lady Gaga, who wore a stylish silver dress by Celine’s artistic director Hedi Slimane. She completed the look with over 100 carats of diamonds by Tiffany & Co.

Every year, someone must carry the title of being the worst dressed. This year it goes to singer, Ashanti, whose gown resembled the poop emoji. She walked the Red Carpet in a two-toned dress with a full-length brown skirt that flowed into ruffles. Her puffy ensemble featured a thigh-high split and a pair of black stiletto pumps in an attempt to pull the look together. She did not receive the best reviews from her fans and ended up at the top of many people’s worst dressed list.
