On Thursday, October 12, 2017 Alcorn State University held the Coronation for Kristina Brown, Miss Alcorn State University 2017-2018, at 7:00 pm in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex.
Brown, 21, is a native of Jackson, Mississippi and a Senior Psychology major. She is the daughter of Roger and Madline Brown. Not only does Brown fulfill her duties as Miss Alcorn but she has been a member of several organizations on campus such as the T.R.E.N.D. Modeling Squad, Student Ambassadors, First Year Experience, Gospel Choir, President of Pysch Society and she has served as Miss Sopohmore during the 2015-2016 academic year. Upon graduation she plans to attend graduate school to receive a Masters in Psychology.
During the Coronation the mood was infectious. Everyone was anticipating Brown’s crowning. The Mistress of Ceremony was Tiffany Llyod, Miss Alcorn State University 2002-2003, who introduced Lady Brown’s Royal Court which consisted of Miss Freshman, Chelsey Page, a Criminal Justice and Psychology major from Atlanta, Georgia, Miss Sophomore, Domonique Varnado, a Molecular Biology major from Vicksburg, Mississippi, Miss Junior, Moriah Batiest, an Agriculture major from Chicago, Illinois and Miss Senior, Shamesha Martin, a Biology major from Goodman, Mississippi.
After the introduction of Lady Brown’s Royal Court, the moment everyone was anticipating finally arrived. Brown entered the dimly lit room with elegance and grace. Patrick Herbert Jr., SGA President 2017-2018, then took her hand and escorted her to the stage. She was then crowned and presented with a bouquet of roses by Dr. Alferd Rankins, Jr., President of Alcorn State University. During her acceptance speech Brown thanked her mother for always pushing and inspiring her and she thanked the student body for electing her. Brown says she plans to bring the empowerment of women to Alcorn State University.
