THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

The Marathon

I stay in my dreams, impatient to be at the finish line.

Yet in the present my feet are moving, but at a slow pace.

I compel them to run faster, then I trip on something undisclosed.

Trying to figure out who is trying to hinder me.

I look in front of me, then I look behind me.

Trying to find the root to my problems

Not only is my speed increasing, but the time is too.

All I am hearing is the clocking, ticking, and my heart beating

With every goal ran by frantically

Trying to get to the finish line.

My feet are moving rapidly.

Just thinking about what I am going to see, who I am going to meet, where I am going to go.

And how fulfilled will I be?

The faster I go, the sweeter success tastes.

Then I slip on my own desires

Getting up, looking around, seeing who to blame

I look down and see my shadow.

begging me to slow down.

I look around.

And see everyone cheering me on with praise.

I start at a new pace, looking at the present.

With acceptance.
