THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

The Retro 80’s Daze Fashion Show

On Monday, October 12, 2015 Alcorn State University’s Gentlemen and Queens (GQ) Modeling Squad held their first annual Fall Retro 80’s Glow Daze Fashion Show at 7:30 pm at the James L. Bolden Campus Union.

The Retro 80’s Glow Daze Fashion Show was an event designed to showcase Alcorn’s students who are fashion minded or plan to pursue a career in the field. The GQ Modeling Squad put on a wondrous display to get everyone who attended into the school spirit. The show helped the students understand 80’s fashion and how the clothing trends have progressed or in some cases, regressed in prior decades. The environment was electric as there was a dance portion of the show and a walk off.

Joseph Dawson, a junior Mass Communications major from Tunica, MS was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. He introduced the different factions of the event which consisted of  The Glow Scene, Black Lives Matter and a Straight Walk Scene. He stated to the audience that, “This is a fashion show and we are here to have fun, but every scene has a message, so pay close attention.”

GQ Modeling Squad President Trevor Williams was proud of the show that he and the rest of the members put together. Williams says, “Everyone did a wonderful job and I am so grateful of the support the campus gave us. It feels so good to sell out the  show and have everyone enjoy themselves.”  Williams continued by saying,“This is what GQ does. We have worked so hard and I see that it has paid off. I am looking for many more successful shows in the future and do not plan to stop anytime soon.”

The Gentlemen and Queens Modeling Squad has made their presence known on campus as not only a fashion organization but as a service organization that not only helps the students of Alcorn but the surrounding areas as well.  Many alumni members of GQ came out to support the show and donate items for the event. GQ’s next event, The Color Run, will be held on October 24, 2015 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Alcorn’s campus in Lorman.
