Thrifting Tips to Live By

Thrifting is the best way to find a missing piece to an outfit or creating a unique look that’s all your own. Although, thrifting for an outfit can be easy there are much better ways to make shopping a better experience. Here are a few tips to help you become a thrifting queen or king.

1. TRYING ON CERTAIN PIECES TO MAKE SURE THEY FIT

Finding that cute blazer is one thing but making sure the item fits is another. It can be annoying pulling clothes on and off but at the end of the day you’ll be glad you did. Be sure to check for sizes and numbers to be sure you can wear it.

2. MAKE A LIST OF ITEMS TO BUY

I keep a list for almost everything these days. Keep a list of items you’ve been meaning to pick up for certain outfits. This way you can get the things you need for much less than the department stores. Your list can consits of things such as a blazer, a necklace, a belt or a cardigan. Keep the list in your phone or planner to have ready when you need it. Even a wish list is a good idea as well. Which brings me to my next item on this list.

3. SET A BUDGET

Setting a budget will keep you from spending more money than you probably should or intend on spending. You can make a mental note of your limit or even a physical note. If you only want to spend $20 keep that in mind while shopping. Luckily thrift stores will allow you to spend much less.

4. AVOID BUYING TRENDY OR  “IN” PIECES

Trends are usually popular one day and then the next they’re a thing of the past. Don’t buy too many things that probably won’t be around in a few months. I mostly buy things that I can wear year round or for long periods of time. It saves money and allows more wear and tear out of the clothes you buy.

5. FINDING GOOD THRIFT STORES

Some of the local stores and second hand shops in your town should provide a fun and friendly shopping experience.

Follow these tips and soon you’ll be on your way to a fashion forward lifestlye. Happy Shopping!
