Tigers Shock Braves in Regular Season Finale

The Alcorn State University Braves (7-4, 5-2), traveled to Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi to take on the Jackson State University Tigers (3-8, 3-4) in what turned out to be a game that was dominated in the trenches.

Both teams struggled early and often offensively in the first quarter as they played their final game of the regular Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) season. Alcorn got on the board first at the 5:34 mark when Kicker Corey McCullough kicked a 19 yard field goal straight between the uprights to make the score 3-0, Braves.

Offensively, the second quarter reflected much of the first quarter as both team’s defenses established themselves equally. The Tigers got on the board at the 3:32 mark when Running back Terrell Kennedy scored on a 69 yard run to the end zone and with Kicker Christian Jacquemin’s successful point after attempt (PAT) the score was now 3-7, Tigers. Unfortunately for the Braves this would also be the final score due to the lackluster scoring in the third and fourth quarters from both teams. This was Alcorn’s first loss to a SWAC Eastern Division opponent in three years.

The Braves’ next contest will be on December 2nd at 3:30 pm in Houston, Texas at NRG Stadium for the SWAC Championship when they take on the winner of the Bayou Classic (Southern University/Grambling State University). The game will be televised on ESPNU.
