THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Trade School vs College

Trade school is a postsecondary educational institution designed to train students for a specific job in a skilled trade career. College is just an institution or constituent part of one. I think that both are great opportunities to gain an education but in a totally different way.

According to What Is a Trade School? How Can You Apply? (prepscholar.com), attending a vocational school is a great choice for those who would like to have a job in their career field right after they graduate. I honestly think that is a great option as well. In college, most people often have trouble finding a well-paying job within their field. I truly believe that is terrible because a person has to work extremely hard to earn a degree for a job, and they have to struggle looking for one.

Most jobs now look for people who have been fully trained instead of people who just learn things in a classroom. I think that is the easiest route to getting a good job. Most fields such as Technology, Nursing, and Health Sciences and Automotive Technicians should only be taught hands-on. In my opinion, that is the only way you’re really going to learn how to do things. Without a doubt, I know no one wants a nurse taking care of them or a mechanic fixing their car if they haven’t had full hands-on training.

Trade school has many pros and cons. They only last up to two years. I think that is a perfect time length to train people for their future careers. I don’t like the fact of how long certain people have to attend school for their dream jobs. It basically just depends on what career you want to pursue. Trade schools usually don’t have any extracurricular activities. The students just go to class and go through with their training. I don’t necessarily agree with that because students who attend trade school should have an outlet where they can relax outside of the classroom. I don’t like to just go to class and go back to my room. I find that very boring. I think there should be more campus culture and social interactions just like in college.

Nevertheless, college has more advantages than trade schools. College focuses more on academic knowledge. Most classes in college are based on learning in a classroom. I really don’t like to just learn all of my material in a classroom. Sometimes I would love to have hands-on training in class. According to 11 College Benefits To Weigh When Pursuing Higher Education | Indeed.com, colleges offer more opportunities as well.

Colleges also offer sports, clubs, Greek organizations, and campus traditions. I honestly love that. Earning a college degree has a lot more benefits than trade school. I believe that because a college degree offers you more job opportunities within your major. A trade school certificate just offers a job you’ve been trained for.

Overall, it isn’t better to go to trade school than college. Both have great opportunities either way. College is for those who want the entire traditional experience. People should only attend trade school if they just want an exact job they have been professionally trained for.
