Tragedy Overshadows Homecoming at Alcorn

The Alcorn State University Braves’ Football team’s first victory of the season was quickly marred by tragedy on Saturday, October 11th around 6:30 pm when one individual was killed and two others were injured during a shooting on the campus near the Industrial Technology Building.

At 7:00 pm the University sent out a campus wide alert telling all students to remain inside until the all clear was issued. Avantavis T. Cater, 68th SGA President stated, “I’m urging all students to remain in place and not move about campus until campus police and university officials confirm that it is safe to do so. Please stay informed through official university alerts and avoid relying on unverified information circulating online.”

There will be a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, October 4th at 5:00 pm to discuss this situation and to address student’s concerns over the events that took place.
