U.S. News and World Report Lists Alcorn #19 in the Country

U.S. News and World Report, who publishes college news and rankings, recently released its Fall list of their Best College Rankings for 2018 that included Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The HBCUs that are on the list of Black Colleges are compared to one another in a separate list of HBCU rankings. In order to obtain consideration the Universities must be a part of the U.S. Department of Education Registry of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Eighty HBCUs were eligible for the 2018 rankings and of the 80, 74 were ranked in the list. Amongst the criteria for making the rankings is that the qualifying universities must grant undergraduate baccalaureate degrees and enroll first time and first year university students.

The criteria for the rankings include other factors such as the student body, academic quality, financial resources, retention, faculty selection and alumni giving. Alcorn State University (ASU) is ranked number 19 on the list. The University went up five spots after previously being ranked 24th in the 2016 rankings. Also, ASU was recently placed 37th on the Top Public School category and is the only HBCU in the state of Mississippi to be listed in this category and in the past two years Alcorn has remained amongst the Top 100 Best in the Regional Universities (South) being ranked at number 95.

Alcorn State plans to continue in its quest to become the premiere HBCU in the country. To read the full rankings go to http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/hbcu.
