On Wednesday, October 23rd, at 1:00 pm, the Office of Global Programs, the United Nations, and The Humpty Dumpty Institute, collaboratively held a United Nations Lecture Series that was located in the Medgar Wiley Evers Auditorium at the J.D. Boyd Library.
The Lecture presented guest speaker H.E. Rudolph Michael Ten-Pow who is an Ambassador and Representative of Guyana to the United Nations. Ten-Pow holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French, Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Guyana. He also holds a Postgraduate diploma in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Geneva, Switzerland and a Master’s degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in International Relations from the City University of New York.
Ten-Pow discussed the history, economic development, and Guyana’s involvement in the United Nations. He shared how Agriculture and mining are Guyana’s most important economic activity with sugar, bauxite, rice, and gold accounting for 70 to 75 percent of export earnings. “We are one of the few countries where you can say that nature is unspoiled and with that it has helped us to remain financially strong as a country,” he stated.
Once Ten-Pow concluded his lecture, there was a question and answer segment from the audience. Sarah-Joy Romain, an Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology major from Trinidad and Tobago, expressed, “I feel as though it was a very informative lecture. I learned a lot of things that I didn’t know about Guyana. It made me see the country in an entirely different light.”
