When someone says “about last night,” what comes to mind? Do you think about how much you turned up the night before? While you were “lit” last night, did you take precautionary measures to ensure your safety? Well, the ladies of Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. put a spin on the phrase to bring students necessary information about being safe while having fun.
Members of the chapter hosted the ‘About Last Night’ series September 18-19, 2016 in the J.D. Boyd Library Auditorium. During the two-night event series issues such as peer pressure, interrelationships and drinking decisions were thoroughly discussed. Students in attendance were able to learn important facts about relationships, alcohol consumption and avoiding date rape drugs through skits, interactive activities and a PowerPoint presentation.
Senior, Rayford Mullins, expressed, “This experience was very helpful. I felt like both events were very organized and well put together. There was great interaction with the crowd and this is something that is very important to talk about.”
Mistress of Ceremonies and coordinator for the event, Senior, Hali Peterson, created various games evoking crowd participation. Activities included, a tootsie roll game showing that using protection during sexual intercourse is always the best way to go, an exercise persuading attendees to list positive and negative traits of their ideal partner, trivia drinking game with cranberry juice and a decision making game with scenarios describing a night out on the town.
LaQuita Williams, Senior, added, “The event was good. I enjoyed the interactive games and facts. It’s good that the information targeted our age group of college students.”
The series showed that students can still have fun while being safe and responsible. Light refreshments were served afterwards on both days.
