The Office of Career Services held its annual Career Exploration Week from September 17th – 21st which was facilitated by Dr. Joey Mitchell, Director of Career Services. The week is geared toward preparing students for life after college.
With the theme, “Success is Never Ending,” Career Exploration Week began with a mixer on the Plaza. Members of the Sigma Chi Iota Academic Honor Society aided in grilling burgers and hot dogs and passing out T-shirts to students. This was done to inform students of the events of the next few days.
Ashley Craig, Parliamentarian of Sigma Chi Iota, stated, “Career Week is designed to help students to become familiar with career opportunities so that they will already know what it’s like and what to expect when they get out in the real world. It’s a jump start experience and opportunity for many of them whatever their classification may be.”
The attendees at the mixer were also informed about the graduate and professional expo which provided students with information regarding various graduate programs. The graduate expo featured over 35 schools including the University of North Texas, Louisiana State University, and the University of Tennessee to name a few.
Pamalia Clark, Public Relations Specialist of Sigma Chi Iota, stated, “We have approximately 50 companies at the professional expo who are here hiring students on the spot. Some of them are also doing internships. This is a chance for students to seek and secure employment opportunities.”
The 2018 Career Exploration Week was an immense opportunity for the students of Alcorn State. Students were given the opportunity to branch out and receive information on their interests as they pursue their education.
