As the semester comes to an end, colleges and universities are now about to close for the academic school year. With them closing, that means students have to prepare to pack and clean their room out. As a college student, I know it can be very difficult to effectively pack all of your clothes, necessities, dorm decorations and other accessories. To avoid cramped space and overloads when it comes to packing, here are 5 tips that can effectively help you pack.
ROLL YOUR CLOTHES
Clothes are the most important items to pack when it is time to move out. Although packing clothes may seem simple and easy to fold up, they take up plenty of space. An easy way to avoid clothes taking up space is by rolling up your clothes. Rolling clothes saves nearly double the space. Start with your larger clothing items such as jeans and outerwear and end with your smaller clothing items such as T-shirts and tank tops.
USE AIR REMOVABLE BAGS
Try using air removal bags for your large items such as coats, comforters, pillows and blankets. Air removable bags are very effective because the bags are able to hold large items and can be thinned out to 2-3 inches making things more spacious when it’s time to move out.
PURGE ITEMS THAT YOU DO NOT WANT
I know this may be one difficult tip, but it works. When it comes to packing up your dorm, a great suggestion will be throwing away items that you know you may not ever use again. This causes things to be less crowded.
REUSE AND RECYCLE
A great tip when it comes to packing is reusing things that you already have such as Ziploc bags, plastic bags and other small storages that you are able to pack your things in. Large zipper bags are great for moving out of a dorm. Nothing falls out of them and it can easily stack in cars and carts to move them.
WEAR YOUR SHOES
When you wear a large pair of shoes while traveling, it saves space in your suitcase/duffel. The same goes for outerwear. For example, people usually wear sandals or slides when traveling but if you can, I would suggest wearing a pair of sneakers instead to avoid taking up much space.
Hopefully these 5 tips are effective and can help students easily pack their dorm room. I know packing to move out of a dorm room can take a lot of work, however, with these tips, it will become easier and less stressful.
