6 Ways To Begin A Comic Collection

Being that I’m a Comic Head (a person who enjoys reading and collecting comic books), many people ask me how they can get started with this fascinating hobby. I’m going to share 6 ways on how to begin your collection journey.

DEVELOP A LIST

Construct a list of characters (limit this to 5 in the beginning) that you’ve always been fascinated with.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Google the characters that you chose and find out about their background. Familiarize yourself with their power set (if they have any) and what makes them unique.

SET A LIMIT

Comics can be expensive. The average book today is $3.99. You’re just beginning so try not to get over 5 books because it’s really easy to get consumed within the hobby and walk out with 15 to 20 books.

KNOW THE TERMINOLOGY

There are certain terms that you should know as a true Comic Head such as Issue, Long Boxes, Variant, Compendium, Floppy, and Hard Copy. Make certain that you’re proficient in the culture.

CHOOSE A COMIC SHOP

Locate a local comic shop that you’re comfortable with. Get to know the employees. They’re normally really cool people that would love to help you out.

START SMALL AND BUILD YOUR COLLECTION

As stated earlier purchase a few books (5) upon venturing into your local comic shop. Find the books that you want, purchase them and come back the next week to grab some more. You’ll notice over time your collection beginning to grow by leaps and bounds.
