If you are a college student staying on campus you need to stay safe at all times. There is nothing wrong with practicing safety so here are 7 tips to stay safe on campus.
WALKING AROUND CAMPUS
When walking around campus at night or anytime make sure you know your campus very well. Always walk in groups to minimize issues. Make sure to always watch your surroundings. If you absolutely have to walk by yourself stay on the phone with someone.
SHARE YOUR LOCATION
Make sure to share your location with your family, friends, and roommates. Tell people where you are going and what time to expect you back.
RESIDENCE HALLS
While in the dorm make sure not to leave your suite door open. Always lock your room door even if you are only going down the hall. Report strange people hanging around the dorm. Also, never leave your keys lying around and only tell people that you trust what dorm you live in.
MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY
Park in well-lit areas. Do not leave valuables inside of your car. When walking to your car make sure you have your keys in your hand. As soon as you get in the car, lock your doors so that no one can open them.
OUT AFTER DARK
If you’re out after dark, make sure to wear colored clothing so that people can see you. Do not have earbuds in so that you can hear what is around you.
IF YOU’RE IN TROUBLE
Make sure that you dial the campus police and start screaming to get someone’s attention. If you can, get away as fast as you can.
FRIENDS
Make sure to pick friends that you know will have your back at all times. When you do that you all can go out together but always stay together.
