Antoine T. Johnson Jr. is a 19-year-old Sophomore from Clinton, Louisiana, majoring in Computer Networking and Informational Systems with a concentration in Advanced Technology.
He is in his second year here at Alcorn State University (ASU) and is working on building his legacy year by year. During his Freshman year on ‘The Reservation’, he served as Mr. Freshman and currently serves as the 2024-2025 Mr. Sophomore. He decided to run again for a second term because he genuinely enjoyed representing his class last year and wanted to continue to be a role model for his peers. He believes that his involvement throughout high school with the Student Government Association helped him to build the confidence and skills that he needed to stand strong in his current position.
“I bring a set of core principles that are rooted in commitment, dedication, and a drive for excellence,” says Johnson.
One of the main things that he strives to continue throughout his reign is to represent himself and his entire class with pride and dignity. As he looks ahead to the future, he wants to continue to strengthen school spirit, promote unity, and inspire fellow students to get more involved around campus academically and socially. Johnson is also hoping to lead more projects that pertain to social justice awareness, cultural events, and even mentorship-based programs for the underclassmen of Alcorn.
He began working towards these initiatives last year when he hosted his “King Series” which taught young men how to dress professionally, learn leadership development skills, and events that helped individuals gain a closer relationship with God. He has a plan that he continues to put into motion and he believes that it will help him to make a lasting impact on his campus community.
He however knows that nothing that he has accomplished thus far could have been possible without Jesus Christ. He gives all glory to God for putting him into a position that allows him to inspire others to not only be great but to seek after God’s love for them. Johnson does not plan to stop inspiring after his time here at Alcorn is up. He credits ASU for helping develop him into a more well-rounded leader and admirer of community service and hard work. These are all traits that he plans to continue to implement into his day-to-day lifestyle.
Upon graduating from the University in May of 2027, Johnson plans on becoming an educator while working towards his Master’s and Ph.D. in Leadership. His ultimate goal is to one day work at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) as a Director of Computer Information Technology Services and then to one day become the Vice President of Student Affairs.
However, Johnson is more than just his dreams or his current title. He is a man of faith and love. He believes that “failure is not final unless we fail to get up again,” and he uses this saying as motivation to never give up. He strives for excellence because he knows that he was born to succeed in social stereotypes and stigmas that are constantly placed upon black men. He is also rooted in love and support and he thanks his family for the everlasting commitment to always love and be there for him.
