Listening to ‘Finally Over It’ for the first time, my first thought was that Summer Walker’s vocals
are still as soft, emotional, and effortless as ever. She’s one of those artists who can make even
the simplest track feel personal just because of how she delivers it. The album as a whole is
good and easy to listen to, but it doesn’t hit me as hard as the first two projects in the trilogy. I
think that’s mainly because ‘Over It’ and ‘Still Over It’ were so strong that I came into this one with really high expectations. The album is divided into two parts: ‘For Better’ and ‘For Worse’ with 9 tracks on each disc. Here are a few songs that I liked:
● Robbed You
● Go Girl
● Baby
● 1-800 Heartbreak
● Heart of a Woman
● Give Me A Reason
● FMT
● Number One
● Get Yo Boy
● Stitch Me Up
● Allegedly
Each of these tracks caught my attention for different reasons, whether it was the production, the storytelling, or just how smooth her vocals sounded. They show that even though the album feels different from the last two, Summer still knows how to create songs that stick.
Compared to her last two albums, this one feels lighter, calmer, and more mature. It’s almost like she’s finally at peace with everything she’s sung about over the years. That shift isn’t bad, but it does make the finale feel more mellow than the emotionally heavy moments she delivered before.
Overall, my first listen of the album didn’t grab me instantly, but I can tell some of these songs might grow on me over time.
