Alcorn Band Scholars Perform at Wind Ensemble Band Concert

Music scholars performed at Alcorn State University’s (ASU) annual Wind Ensemble Band Concert on April 11, 2023 at the Joyce J. Bolden Fine Arts Building Concert Hall. Students performed four pieces under the direction of music conductor, Dr. Everson Martin.

The show began with a traditional Spanish march “Pan American” by Hank Williams. This was followed by “A Quiet Music” composed by Douglas E. Wagner. This was a short, expressive legato piece directed by Cortez Toy, Graduating Senior and Music Instructor. “Proud Heritage” by William P. Latham was also performed. The show ended with the musical piece “Ride” by Samuel Hazo. This piece is filled with rapid changes in time signature, dynamics and moods.

The Department of Fine Arts offers courses in Speech, Music, Theater, Choir and Humanities. It houses the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite (SOD) Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and choral groups. The Department also offers degrees such as Music Education Instrumental, Music Education Vocal, Music Performance Vocal and the Bachelor of Arts in Music.
