Thanks to the diligent efforts of Delta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Alpha Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. an anonymous child is one step closer to having his greatest wish come true which is a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
On Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in the Clinton Bristow, Jr. Dining Facility the men of the two organizations joined together to gather donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to sponsor a six-year-old boy with incurable cancer.
Senior Radford Mullins expressed, “We decided to have this event because we felt like it was very helpful for us to collaborate with the men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at Alcorn State University to bring about a difference. We want to make sure this little boy is able to have his wish granted.”
Encouraging individuals to purchase blue stars for one dollar, the men gained much support from the student body. After purchasing the stars donors would write their name on the stars to be hung on the wall of the lobby area.
Dara Robertson, Junior, stated, “I gave because I think it’s important to help people no matter what the cause is and I think that it’s a good cause to send somebody to Disney World that you know will never have that experience again and who doesn’t have the funds to go.”
Tevin Irving, Junior, added, “This is a great event because it shows us as a fraternity getting together with other fraternities to achieve one goal by helping a little boy get to where he wants to go. I feel great about it. It’s a great honor to be apart of this joint experience with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.”
