Alcorn State University (ASU) recently held its Fall 2024 commencement exercise. The graduation, which had 194 undergraduates and 63 graduates, occurred on Thursday, December 12th, on the Lorman campus. The commencement began at 9:00 am in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex.
The keynote speaker for the graduation was Carla Kirkland, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Kirkland Group which is an educational consulting firm. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics from Alcorn and her Master’s degree in Teaching from Jackson State University. While at the ceremony, Kirkland addressed the graduates by saying, “Never despise small beginnings. No matter how humble they may seem, don’t despise the small beginnings….. Zackeria 4:10 reminds us of this. For the Lord rejoices to see your work begin. This verse serves as a powerful reminder that no matter where we start we should cherish the process because in those early stages lie seeds of greatness.”
Kirkland is the author of three books and enjoys spending time with her family. She is the wife to the late Malcoln Kirkland, Sr., one daughter, Alexia, and a son, the late Malcoln Jr.
