On February 24th, Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted its 2026 Spring Career Fair in the Rudolph Waters Building from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event provided numerous opportunities for students to connect with businesses and colleges while gaining insight into potential career paths after graduation.
The Fair presented booths that filled both the first and second floors of the building. Participating organizations included Meharry Medical College, Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services, Millsaps College, Concordia Parish School Board, Mississippi College, Enterprise, Indiana University Health, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Delta State University, Hollandale School District, and the Center for Insurance Transformation.
Students arrived dressed in professional attire, carrying résumés and ready to make strong first impressions. Representatives from the schools and businesses welcomed them with hospitality and provided detailed information about their programs, internships, and employment opportunities.
Calvin Willis, a representative from the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services, explained the agency’s mission. “We are here to recruit what we call frontline workers, or social service specialists,” Willis said. “They go out to homes and address allegations of abuse and neglect. They check on the children, lay eyes on them, and make sure they are properly taken care of.”
Cassandra Bogan from the Columbus Municipal School District, who works in Human Resources, shared what her district was seeking. “What we’re offering today, we’re looking for new and incoming educators that we can adapt into our system and get them on board to help with the teaching of our new students,” Bogan said. “We want to create a family-like atmosphere while helping our teachers come in and excel.”
Students also expressed their appreciation for the event. Shatavia Buford, a student at Alcorn State University, described the Fair as very beneficial. “I think it is a great networking opportunity for students who want to get an internship before leaving college and secure a job for their future once they graduate,” Buford said.
