The Coronation of Mister and Miss Alcorn State University (ASU) took place on Thursday, October 9th, at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Davey L. Whiteney Complex.
Jhada Amelia Wade, a Biology Pre-Physical Therapy major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was crowned the 99th Miss Alcorn State University while Camron Parker, a Business Administration major from Heidelberg, Mississippi, was crowned the 5th Mister Alcorn State University. The night’s theme was Mardi Gras Bravecoming.
The event began with the Posting of Colors by the Alcorn Brave Battalion. Next, the National Anthem was performed. Jordan Davis, the Coordinator of Student Engagement, gave the Welcome and Occasion. The Invocation was then given by Avantavis Carter, the 68th Student Government Association (SGA) President.
Former Miss ASU Queens and SGA Presidents were first recognized, followed by the acknowledgment of the Process of Regality. Misses and Misters of other clubs and organizations falling in the academic, special fields of interest, and Pan-Hellenic categories were introduced. The Royal Court was announced next. Wyanye Vance, Mister Freshman, who is a Criminal Justice major, escorted Miss Freshman, Seattle Zimmerman, a Pre-Nursing Biology major. Mister Sophomore, Jimmerion Elliott, who is a Sports Management major, escorted Miss Sophomore Amelia Daniels, an Accounting major. Mister Junior, Chrisshun Armstrong, a History major, escorted Miss Junior, Alaila Muhammad, an Agriculture Business major while Mister Senior, Kameron Hopson, an Agriculture Business major, escorted Miss Senior Jamyiyah Cotten, a Mass Communications major.
The crowning ceremony then took place for the 5th Mister Alcorn and 99th Miss Alcorn. President of ASU, Dr. Tracy M. Cook, did the crowning, as well as the robing and presentation of roses. Next, was a royal dance featuring The Resilient Royals. Afterwards, traditional dances were performed. Parker danced with his mother, Mrs. Charlotte Parker, while Wade danced with her father, Mr. Jimmie Wade. To close the event, Mr. and Miss Alcorn then presented acceptance speeches, expressing their deep gratitude to the student body.
