ASU Students Visits HBCU Legacy Bowl Career Fair

On Friday, February 23rd, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, 50 students and members of the Career Services Department from Alcorn State University (ASU) ventured to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center La Nouvelle Orleans Ballroom in New Orleans, Louisiana to partake in the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Legacy Bowl Career Fair.

This marks the third consecutive year that Career Services has participated in this event.Ā “The Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl Career Fair, presented by the New Orleans Saints, provides job opportunities and career counseling for HBCU Juniors, Seniors and recent graduates. Participants have the opportunity to connect with the nation’s top employers,” according to www.hbculegacybowl.com. Several universities that attended the event were Tuskegee University, Mississippi Valley State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Florida A&M University, Alabama State University, Alabama A&M, Lincoln University, Shaw University, etc.

Joseph Anthony, a Senior Education major, stated, “This was my first time at the HBCU Legacy Bowl and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. There were several companies here for Education and non-Education majors looking to hire. If you ever get the opportunity to experience this event, please do it.”

Some of the companies participating at the Career Fair were The Unum Group, Fluor, Blue Cross Blue Shield, ACSA, National Football League, Verizon, Cisco, FBI, Cox Communications, Foot Locker, TeamWork Online, Edward Jones, ADM, Louisiana State Police, Truist Financial, etc.

Michael Harper, Director of Career Services at ASU stated, “I am dedicated to exposing Alcornā€™s students to every possible opportunity that will contribute to their success as Alcornites.Ā  Because of events such as this, there is a noticeable shift in attitude toward internships among students, reflecting a growing culture of ambition and proactive career development at Alcorn State University.” Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
