A new semester has brought a new business here to Alcorn State University. That business you may ask is La Choix Beauty Empire which is now open to students and faculty. Located beside the J.D. Boyd Library, this business includes a barbershop, hair salon, beauty supply products and a nail salon.

Twyla Graise, owner and hairstylist, expressed that this is something she passionately thought about doing for a while.

She stated that she already has a shop in Port Gibson, Mississippi and that this is an extension of it. Students no longer have to leave campus to get a cut or style. Graise and her staff plan to meet the needs of a salon on campus and so far the student body has received it well.

Some of the products that the salon will be selling are styling tools and hair supplies like oils and conditioners. The beauty supply portion of the business also sells braiding hair and crochet braids alongside lace front wigs. As it relates to the salon, the stylists do washing, braiding, weaving, sew-ins, and so much more. The barbershop caters to low-cut styles and also offers men facials. La Choix Beauty Empire also offers manicures and pedicures, proving to be a one-stop shop for your beauty needs.

For right now, Graise says that she is fully staffed and that she has already hired three Alcorn students. She also insists that this business is about more than just selling and doing hair. Her staff takes pride in their motto “caring when others don’t.”

“We are into education,” Graise states, “We want to make sure that the students, faculty and whomever we service know about their hair. Our mission is to teach students how to properly take care of their hair.”

The barber, Jordan Shorter, expressed, “Barbering is not just about cutting hair. I can be a role model or a guide to students.” He also stated that he is ready to work on, as he puts it, naps and curls.

La Choix Beauty Empire is open Monday through Friday from 12:30 pm to 7:oo pm and on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.

The store will be having special discounts on products and services throughout the semester to be sure that students have a chance to take advantage of their services. They accept Gold cards, credit or debit cards and cash.

Graise would like to give a special thanks to the University for allowing her to start this shop and to be able to bring her team. All students, faculty, and members of the surrounding community are welcomed.
