Alumni Spotlight: Thaddus Mayberry Jr.

Thaddus Mayberry Jr., a proud native of Natchez, Mississippi, began cultivating his passion for media and creativity at an early age. He attended Alcorn State University, where he earned his degree in Mass Communications while actively participating in campus life, including his membership in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and performing in The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band. After graduating, Mayberry went on to build a successful career as a Marketing Specialist, serving in that role for several companies over the years. His creative vision and dedication to storytelling eventually led him into music video direction, where his work quickly gained recognition. As the current Music Video Director and Marketing Specialist for rising artist Diamondthebody, he continues to merge artistic innovation with marketing expertise. His impact has been honored at events across multiple cities and states, celebrating the cultural influence and production quality of his music videos. He is the oldest of three brothers, with Joedarius and Javien Fleming following in his footsteps of ambition and drive. Through every chapter of his journey, Mayberry has remained committed to excellence, artistic integrity, and elevating voices through powerful visual media.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ALCORN? I chose Alcorn because of its strong legacy, cultural pride, and the sense of family I felt the moment I stepped on campus. As an HBCU with deep roots in excellence and tradition, Alcorn gave me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally in an environment that truly supports its students.

WHAT ORGANIZATIONS WERE YOU A PART OF? While at Alcorn, I was an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and I also had the privilege of performing in The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band. Both organizations helped shape my discipline, creativity, and leadership skills.

HOW HAS ALCORN HELPED PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR CAREER? Alcorn laid the foundation for everything that I do today. The Mass Communications program sharpened my skills in media, messaging, and storytelling — all of which are vital in marketing and music video production. But beyond academics, Alcorn taught me how to network, lead with purpose, and carry myself with pride and professionalism.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT ALCORN? One of the things I enjoyed most was the community — the genuine relationships, the school spirit, and the cultural richness that you feel every day on campus. Whether it was a game day, a performance, or just a walk across ‘The Yard’, Alcorn always felt like home.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT ALCORN? My advice is simple: stay focused, stay hungry, and don’t be afraid to stand out. Take advantage of every opportunity — whether it’s joining an organization, networking with professors, or creating your own lane. Your time on ‘The Yard’ will shape your future, so make it count.
