WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ALCORN?

From a young age, I always envisioned attending Alcorn. Growing up in Natchez, I had ample opportunities to experience the warm, down-home atmosphere that Alcorn offers. I was truly enchanted by Alcorn’s excellence early on and when I discovered its pre-professional program, I was completely sold.

WHAT ORGANIZATIONS WERE YOU A PART OF?

During my time at Alcorn, I was involved in several organizations, such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Student Government Association, the Royal Court, and Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity.

HOW HAS ALCORN HELPED PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR CAREER?

Alcorn has equipped me for my career by instilling a strong foundation of confidence and offering invaluable networking opportunities. The supportive environment at ASU has empowered me to believe in my abilities and take on challenges. Moreover, the connections I’ve made with peers and faculty have significantly expanded my professional network, opening doors for future opportunities and collaborations. This combination of self-assurance and a robust network has been instrumental in shaping my career path and preparing me for success in my chosen field.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT ALCORN?

I greatly appreciated the variety of campus activities at Alcorn, as well as the welcoming, family-like atmosphere that permeated the university. To this day, whenever I encounter a fellow Alcornite, it is as if I am catching up with a relative. There is an undeniable warmth and familiarity in our interactions that cannot be matched.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR CURRENT OR FUTURE STUDENTS ON ‘THE YARD’?

My advice to current Alcorn students is to fully embrace and enjoy your time on ‘The Yard’, while also being purposeful and strategic about your career journey. Take the time to immerse yourself in the vibrant campus life, build lifelong friendships, and participate in various activities. However, it is equally important to be proactive about your future. Identify your career interests early on, seek internships, connect with mentors, and take advantage of the resources available to you.
