Campaign week for the 2024-25 school year did not disappoint. With beautiful Spring weather, candidates vying to represent Alcorn State University (ASU) in its immense capacity campaigned from April 1st – 8th. Candidates running for the Student Government Association (SGA) positions were given a chance to properly introduce themselves and speak about their platform at The Plaza. The Mister and Miss Alcorn Pageant took place on March 24th in the Dr. Rudolph Waters Classroom Building at 5:00 pm.
Voting took place on Tuesday, April 9th. Students received a ballot via their school email where they could vote from 9:00 am – to 5:00 pm. In order for a candidate to win they would have to receive 50 percent of the vote. If not, there would be a run-off on Thursday, April 11th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The results were announced Friday, April 12th at 6:00 pm. The only runoff was for the title of Miss Junior between Aniya Mitchell and Amariah McCray. McCray won the title with 77 votes compared to Mitchell’s 32. The Freshmen candidates will be voted upon in the Fall 2024 semester.
