Campaign week for the 2025-26 school year did not disappoint. With beautiful Spring weather, candidates vying to represent Alcorn State University (ASU) in its immense capacity campaigned from March 17th – 20th. Candidates running for the Student Government Association (SGA) positions were given a chance to properly introduce themselves and speak about their platform on Tuesday, March 18th at the Brian K. Johnson Auditorium at 6:30 pm. Later during the week, the Mister and Miss Alcorn Pageant took place on Thursday, March 20th in the Student Union at 7:00 pm.
Voting took place on Friday, March 21st. Students received a ballot via their school email where they could vote from 9:00 am – to 5:00 pm. In order for a candidate to win they would have to receive 50 percent of the vote. If not, there would be a run-off on Monday, March 24th from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm and after the votes had been tallied, the results would be announced at 8:00 pm in the Game Room at the Student Union Building. The only runoff was for the title of Miss Sophomore between Amelia Daniels, Gabrielle Robinson and Kennedi Cook. Daniels won the title with 44 votes compared to Cook’s 31 and Robinson’s 25. The Freshmen candidates will be voted upon in the Fall 2025 semester. Also, there was an initiative on the ballot for the students to vote for an increase to their student activity fee from $50 to $100 upon which it failed with 706 students voting no.
