Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, better known by his stage name, 21 Savage, is an Atlanta based rapper born on October 22nd, 1992 to Heather Joseph and Kevin Emmons.
Savage’s career began at the age of 21 after the shooting of his best friend. His debut single “Picky” was released in Novemeber 2014 and produced by record producer, DJ Plugg. The single was an underground hit and was later included on Savage’s debut mixtape ‘The Slaughter Tape’ along with another single entitled “Skrt SKrt”.
In June 2016, the Atlanta emcee was named an XXL magazine Freshman alongside fellow rappers, Anderson .Paak, Desiigner, Denzel Curry, Dave East, G Herbo, Kodak Black, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Dicky. Later on in July 2016, Savage released his joint EP with Atlanta-based producer Metro Boomin, ‘Savage Mode’. The EP was a huge success and peaked at number 23 on the Billboard 200. The EP consisted of nine tracks including the Billboard hit “X” featuring Future which went on to be RIAA certified platinum in the United States.
21’s debut ‘Issa Album’, was finally released on July 7, 2017. The album consisted of 14 songs including the pre-released song “Bank Account,” which peaked at number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and went on to be RIAA certified platinum four times. The album itself is now certified gold in the U.S. and platinum in Canada.
Over his career span Savage has released seven projects including 3 mixtapes, ‘The Slaughter Tape’, ‘Slaughter King’, and ‘Free Guwop’, 2 solo albums, ‘Issa Album’ (2017) and ‘I AM >I WAS’ (2018)) and 2 collab projects with record producer Metro Boomin which were ‘Savage Mode’ (2016) and ‘Savage Mode 2’ (2020).
