After an extensive search, Alcorn State University (ASU) announced a campus president on Wednesday, April 24th in the Gold Room of the Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall. Dr. Felecia M. Nave was named the 20th president of Alcorn at a press conference held by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). With this appointment, Dr. Nave made history by becoming the first female President of ASU.
Prior to the announcement, Dr. Nave met with faculty, staff, students, and the surrounding Alcorn community to give a summary of her plans for the University and to address any questions or concerns. One of the driving forces of Nave’s candidacy was her understanding for the need of communication between students and administrators. After Dr. Nave’s initial Meet and Greet, the Board met to consider her selection as President and approved her hire with a unanimous decision.
Dr. Nave’s accomplishment brings her home as she is a 1996 Cum Laude graduate of ASU with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. She holds a Master’s degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering and a Doctorate degree in Engineering from the University of Toledo in Ohio. Nave currently serves as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for North Carolina Central University (NCCU). She previously served in various academic and administrative roles at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas from 2003 until 2018.
Nave will begin serving as President of Alcorn on July 1, 2019.
