On Monday, February 10th at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Mississippi, the Alcorn State University Braves Men’s Basketball team (7-17, 7-4) took on the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils (3-21, 1-10) in a game ending in a complete blowout. The win improved the Braves winning streak to 4.
The game began with the first jumper being made by Junior Marcus Tankersley and the Braves never looked back after that. Alcorn’s strong defense held the Delta Devils’ offense from scoring for the first 5 minutes of the game.
The first 3-pointer of the second half was made by Sophomore Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt who also led the team in scoring with 14 points. The Braves completed the first half with 44 points, to Valley’s 16.
Senior Djahi Binet started the 2nd half with a jumper and two back-to-back layups within the first 3 minutes. Despite the Delta Devils efforts, it was not enough to seem competitive against Alcorn who, at times, led by over 50 points in the 2nd half.
The Braves mercifully ended the game with a 86-39 score. After their Monday night game, the Braves are currently in 6th place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Their next opponent will be the Bethune Cookman University Wildcats (11-13, 8-3) on Saturday, February 15th in Daytona Beach, Florida at 4:00 pm at Moore Gymnasium.
