Braves Dominate Tigers in Houston

On Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 pm at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas the Alcorn State University (ASU) Braves (2-3, 3-6) took on the Texas Southern University (TSU) Tigers (3-3, 4-5) and dominated the contest reminiscent of past teams.

The Braves scored first in the first quarter at the 9:08 mark when Running Back Reggie Davis scored on a 2-yard run and with Kicker Lorenzo Garcia’s extra point the score was 7-0, Braves. The Tigers answered the call at the 2:38 mark when Wide Receiver Roriyon Richardson caught a 43-yard pass from Quarterback HJ Cooper and with Kicker Christian Avelar’s extra point the score was tied at 7.

The second quarter only saw one score and that came from the Braves at the 13:57 mark when Davis scored on a 15-yard run and with Garcia’s successful extra point the score was now 14-7, Braves.

The Braves dominated the third quarter by scoring twice, once at the 9:33 mark when Davis scored yet again, this time on a 2-yard scamper to the end zone and with Garcia’s PAT (Point After Touchdown) the score was 21-7, Braves and later at the 5:24 mark when Garcia nailed a 25-yard field goal to make the score 24-7, Braves.

Entering the fourth at the 11:07 mark Alcorn got on the board again when Wide Receiver Jarvis Rush caught a 2-yard pass from Tolbert and with Garcia’s extra point the score was now 30-7, Braves. TSU got on the board next at the 9:34 mark when Wide Receiver Kerien Charlo caught a 34-yard pass from Quarterback KJ Cooper and with Avelar’s extra point the score was 30-14, Braves. ASU added another score at the 3:27 mark when Garcia nailed a 32-yard field goal making the final score 33-14, Braves.

Alcorn had a total of 446 total yards for the game. The Offensive leaders were Tolbert, who had 20 completions for 222 yards and 1 touchdown, Davis, who rushed for 87 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Rush who had 7 receptions for 93 yards. Defensively, Linebacker Geoffrey McKelton lead all tackles with 6.

The Braves’ next contest will be on Saturday, November 8th at 3:00 pm in Spinks-Casem Stadium against the Southern University (SU) Jaguars (0-5, 1-8). You can listen to the game on WPRL 91.7 FM or wprl.org.
