Lady Braves Lose Nailbiter at Whitney Complex

The Alcorn State Lady Braves (0-5,0-0) looked to end their loosing streak on Wednesday, November 28th at 5:30 pm against the Central Arkansas Lady Bears (3-2,0-0) at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

The Lady Bears’ fans were constantly smiling as Central Arkansas only lost the lead once during the entire game even though the score was tied 5 times during the 40 minutes of play. Coming out with high intensity the Lady Bears led the Lady Braves at the end of the first quarter by a score of 13-11. Trailing by two, the Lady Braves looked invigorated with their newfound confidence. With such low scoring from both teams, the Lady Braves entered the half trailing 19-16. Both Alcorn and Central Arkansas scored single digit numbers in the second quarter with the Lady Bears producing 6 points and the Lady Braves producing only 5.

The Lady Bears quickly changed the momentum of the game returning from the half as they repeatedly scored on offense and made incredible defensive stops. Still struggling to find offense, Alcorn only scored 9 points to Central Arkansas’s 19 in the third quarter. Showing the fight still left in them, the Lady Braves played their best basketball in the fourth quarter outscoring Central Arkansas 21-19 albeit, to no avail, as they lost their fifth straight game by the final score of 57-46.

Toddrianna Isler, Junior, had a double-double as she led Alcorn with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assist. Aiding her was Charisma Walker, Junior, with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Three year returner, Jada Hargrove, also chipped in 9 points and 4 rebounds. Leading Central Arkansas with the win was guard, Kamry Orr, as she had 21 points and 5 rebounds and Mekaylan Hicks, forward, who also contributed with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The Lady Braves hope to turn things around as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to play the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Dragons at Bartow Arena at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 30.
