The Alcorn State University (ASU) Braves (5-7, 4-4) ended their football season in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, November 22nd at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium at 2:30 pm against the Jackson State University (JSU) Tigers (9-2, 7-1). Although the Braves lost, they played valiantly throughout the contest.
Jackson State dominated the first quarter by hoping on the Braves 17-0 looking like the Back-to-Back Eastern Conference Champions that they would become at the conclusion of the game.
Alcorn finally got on the board at the 11:12 mark in the second quarter when Wide Receiver Tyran Warren caught a 64-yard pass from Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert and with Kicker Lorenzo Garcia’s successful extra point the score was now 17-7, Tigers. JSU answered the Braves at the 1:43 mark when Wide Receiver Nate Rembert caught a 55-yard pass from Quarterback Jared Lockhart and with Kicker Gerardo Baeza’s extra point the score was 24-7, Tigers.
The Braves scored first in the third quarter at the 12:32 mark when Running Back Reggie Davis scored on a 44-yard run and with Garcia’s PAT (Point After Touchdown) the score was now 24-14, Tigers.
JSU scored at the 9:06 mark in the fourth quarter when Baeza nailed a 13-yard field goal to make the score 27-21, Tigers. Alcorn scored at the 2:26 mark but it was too little, too late making the final score 27-21, Tigers.
Offensively for the Braves, Tolbert had 21 completions for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns, Davis was the leading rusher with 120 yards and 1 touchdown, and Warren had 7 catches for 111 yards. Defensively, Stemarion Edwards led all tackles with 12. Overall, the Braves had 390 yards of total offense.
