Kristian Bryant, born to parents Patricia Bryant and Wilbert Bryant, is a Senior Political Science major at Alcorn State University (ASU).
Raised in the quaint city of Terry, Mississippi, Bryant chose to major in Political Science due to a deep curiosity about the forces that shape the world. “Growing up, I saw how politics affects everything—from personal freedoms to social justice—and I realized that understanding it wasn’t just important, but essential for creating meaningful change,” she explained. With a passion for informed and compassionate leadership, Bryant views her studies not just as a major but as a way to help build a better, fairer world.
Bryant is an active member of several campus organizations, including the Student Government Association, Collegiate 100 Women of ASU, a Spring 2024 Initiate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., ASU Wesley Foundation, Heroines of Jericho, Pre-Law Society, Girls Coalition, and the NAACP. Her commitment to leadership and service led her to run for SGA President, a decision rooted in her belief in the power of student voices. “Over my time at Alcorn, I’ve seen the potential for change and growth within our community, and I wanted to be a catalyst for that transformation,” she stated. Her platform, A.R.I.S.E.—Achieving, Rebuilding, Innovating, Succeeding, and Excelling—reflects her dedication to elevating the student experience.
Serving as SGA President has been both a challenge and a privilege for Bryant. “Maintaining a balance between my position, classes, and personal life has been one of my biggest obstacles,” she admitted. “I take my role seriously, and sometimes it’s hard to accept that not everything is within my control.” However, the most rewarding aspect of her position is the ability to help students in real time and witness the impact of collaboration between students and faculty.
Bryant finds inspiration in her mother who embodies both hard work and a loving spirit. She also looks up to Kamala Harris for her strength and willingness to break barriers. “I want to be that type of leader,” she affirmed. A quote she lives by is, “God is within her; she will not fail,” as it reminds her that with faith, success is inevitable.
After graduating from Alcorn, Bryant plans to join the 2% of black women in law by obtaining her Juris Doctorate and becoming an attorney. With her dedication, leadership, and passion for justice, she is determined to make a lasting impact in the legal field and beyond.
