Freshman Class Crowns New Royalty at Alcorn State University

The Student Union Ballroom came alive on Saturday, August 17th, as Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted its annual Mister and Miss Freshman Pageant. At 7:00 p.m., three contestants stepped onto the stage with hopes of earning a crown and the opportunity to represent their class in style.

The night kicked off with the Teen Beach Movie Category, which immediately set a fun and energetic tone. Contestants embraced the theme with bright colors, Summer flair, and playful personalities, transporting the audience straight to a lively beach party. The crowd couldn’t help but clap, laugh, and cheer as the contestants showed off their best surf-inspired looks and carefree vibes.

From there, the competition rolled into the Gameday Category, where purple and gold pride took center stage. Each contestant put their own twist on Alcorn game day fashion, capturing the excitement that comes with Braves’ football Saturdays.

The Talent Category brought a more personal touch to the evening. Contestants used the spotlight to showcase their skills, creativity, and passion. Whether it was through performing, entertaining, or displaying unique abilities, this segment gave the audience a glimpse of the personalities behind the smiles.

Finally, the ballroom was filled with elegance during the Formal Wear portion of the night. Contestants walked the stage in stunning attire, radiating confidence and sophistication as the crowd cheered them on.

When the final scores were tallied, two students stood out. Seattle Zimmerman, a Pre-Nursing Biology major from Miami, Florida, was crowned Miss Freshman, and Wyanye Vance, a Criminal Justice major from West Point, Mississippi, earned the title of Mister Freshman.

The evening was more than just a pageant—it was a celebration of the Class of 2028. With Zimmerman and Vance now representing their peers, the Freshman class enters the year with leaders who embody spirit, talent, and pride for Alcorn.
