The Gamma Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted its annual AKA Week from April 22nd – April 27th, 2019. This year the week was entitled “Pink-ish” based off of the Freeform show “Grown-ish”. Throughout the week, the ladies hosted an array of events that appealed to both the male and female student body.

The week kicked off with “Kollecting for Hope” on Monday in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall Lobby from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. During the event, the AKAs were collecting toiletries for the Hope House of Hospitality. Later that evening, students were invited to attend “Healthy-ish”. Since many students rarely have healthy food choices on campus, this was an event geared towards providing cheap and nutritious healthy food snacks.

On Tuesday, the ladies hosted “Pie an AKA” on the Campus Green at 11:00 am where each member of Alpha Kappa Alpha was willing to be pied for the small fee of $1. Later that evening, students were invited to attend “Battle of the PHittest: PHamily PHeud Edition” which was held in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Multipurpose Room 7 and 8 beginning at 6:08 pm. This was an interactive game night where teams went head to head for a prize. The teams consisted of groups of young ladies from the audience and the Delta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Gamma Pi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Wednesday brought “Pink Table Talk” which was also held in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Multipurpose Room 7 and 8 beginning at 7:08 pm. Here, the ladies of Gamma Phi had an open and honest discussion with the audience about events that occur within the African American community and what can be done to prevent or improve the situations.

“Pretty Konversations” was held at the AKA Sidewalk on Thursday beginning at 6:08 pm. During the event, participants were given cupcakes and lemonade while conversing about different topics.

On Friday, the Gamma Phi Chapter participated in the “Neophyte Stepshow Presentation” held in the E.E. Simmons Gymnasium (Old Gym) at 7:00 pm. The winners of the event were the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

The week concluded on Saturday with the ladies of the Chapter visiting Hope House in Jackson, Mississippi to donate goods such as crossword puzzle books, toiletries, and other nonperishable items.
